When a pullback is still constructive

Traders often call every dip a “healthy pullback.” In class we ask for three marks on the page before that label sticks.

Depth relative to the prior impulse

We measure the pause against the impulse that created it. A retracement that consumes most of the prior swing is treated as suspect for continuation study, even if the higher-timeframe trend still looks intact. Shallow pauses that hold above a prior higher low stay on the candidate list.

Swing count, not candle colour

A single red candle inside an uptrend is not, by itself, a pullback structure. We want a clear sequence: impulse, pause with at least a minor swing low, then evidence that sellers failed to push a lower low. Colour helps narrative; structure decides.

Volume during the pause

Dry-ups inside the flag or pullback zone are noted as supportive. Rising volume while price drifts against the trend is a caution we write beside the chart, not a reason to invent a new indicator.

Invalidation in the same sentence

If you cannot state where the continuation idea is wrong, the pullback is not ready for an entry rule. That sentence is part of homework after every morning markup block.
